We woke up to another bright, sunny day. We started off with coffee on the balcony, then went down for breakfast (the fresh orange juice was amazing!) We then took some time to explore some of the grounds and gardens.........great morning for a walk!
But before the walk.......we forgot to include our visit with the frogs last night.......walking the grounds after dinner! 2 clips
Time to check-out.........it was really a very special place to stay. Then down the coast for a few hours drive to Bogliasco. We decided to take the 'slow' road along the coast which was much more scenic than the autostrada........and as we found out, much more congested with traffic.........although definitely worth the extra time.
For lunch, we headed for a town we had not heard of before, Finalborgo. This was an amazing ancient walled city that was a complete surprise.
We wandered through the narrow streets and piazzas for a while, eventually finding a simple bar/cafe with outdoor seating for lunch.
Infine a Bogliasco!
We arrived at Villa dei Pini in Bogliasco around 3:00. It took a few minutes for someone to come down to the gate, as we did not have the current password. It was Valeria with a big wave and welcome! We drove around behind the villa and parked......and got our suitcases to the back door, to be met by both Valeria and Ivana with big Italian hugs! As it turned out most of the 'others' had just arrived recently so it was nice to be introduced to everyone. I think there are a total of 8 former Fellows with 5 spouses. Valeria helped get the bags to our room and then we returned for a 'refresher' tour and updates on mealtimes, door security and general 'rules of the road.' We were surprised to see one former colleague back for this visit.........Joan Hooker, a Visual Artist and Painter from Palisades, New York..........nice to have an acquaintance in the group.
The view from our room........as spectacular as ever!
After a rest and some unpacking........aperitivi on the terrace at 7:00.
Dinner and digestivi in the Salone followed.........and off to bed for a sound sleep!
