After a great night's sleep, we woke to a misty morning........a little bit of drizzle, but some sun trying to break through. We had needed to give an approximate time for breakfast, so we had said 9:30, allowing us to be a bit lazy! Our White Heron cottage was about a 5 minute walk to the main
manor house, so Andrea decided to not take a chance with the rain.
For a morning adventure, we went into the small town of Gorey (where Marlfield is located). It was Saturday morning and some kind of market day. As it turns out the town was so crowded we never could find a parking space, but drove around for quite a while. We were hoping to find a quaint little inn or pub for lunch, but we totally picked the wrong day! We retreated to a store on the 10 minute drive back to the hotel. It turned out to be more of a convenience store in a gas station complex.......and found a parking space at the front door! We were a bit dubious at first, but it ended up being a perfect solution. The food was quite popular with the locals........and we got a couple of sandwiches, chips and water.......for under 10 euros! Bargain and a kind of 'picnic' back in the room.
The afternoon was relaxing........walking, napping, flower chasing and a swim in the huge tub! Most fun of all was meeting one of the two local horses at the stable behind the garden.
For dinner we had a reservation in the second restaurant, which was called 'The Duck' and was in a renovated stable. We started with a cocktail on the terrace before heading inside for a very 'atmospheric' and delicious dinner.
Very fun window at our dinner table! and after dinner, a swing by the bar seemed like it might be in order!
It stayed light out until 10:30 PM
and we had a visitor follow us back to the room!
