Domenica un Giorno di Riposo

We anticipated a rather cloudy day today, so had planned to catch up on work, do some painting, do the laundry.......and in general have a more quiet day of rest.  This seemed like a really good idea to our feet as well (5 1/2 miles of walking yesterday was leaving its mark!).  We heard a rather loud rumble of thunder around 5:00 am which reinforced this plan.  The day broke, however, with brightening skies and the sun came out by 9:30.  This was totally out of line with the forecast, but no real complaints here.

Breakfast was quiet, as no one else was on the terrace.  A couple of folks ate early and two others took trays to their rooms.  On Sundays the staff is reduced down to a bare minimum and Sarah arrived at 9:00.  When we got there at 8:30, the shutters on the dining room were still closed.  It really felt like a sleepy day!

After breakfast we headed back up to attack the laundry.  While there are some minimal directions in English, most of the instructions are in Italian.  It took us a few tries but we managed to get the machine working.

The dryer is a funny piece of equipment.  It has no ducted air but somehow manages to extract moisture from the clothing........although taking a couple of hours to get this done.  In the end, we pulled everything out and hung the clothes on a drying rack in our room to finish the deal!

The rest of the morning involved a wonderful slow pace, interrupted only by a mid-morning coffee and a short walk in the garden.

We may not have explained this before, but as the result of a remarkable feat of tunnel engineering, the commuter train tracks go right below the Villa property........probably 40 - 50' down into solid rock.  We hear the trains approaching, but never feel or hear anything as they pass below.

Before we knew it, lunch time was here.

Before talking about our afternoon exploration, we wanted to put up another picture from yesterday at the Bogliasco beach.  It was a great day to head for the water!

Another sight along the way was a group exiting from the town church after a mid-afternoon christening........quite a festive event, more like a wedding!

For today, however, our adventure was to drive down to the Nervi train station and park.......this location being much closer to the center of Nervi.  The ulterior motive was to get our bodies relocated to this part of the scenic Passegiatta without having to walk there!  By doing this we cut out about 20 minutes of some rather serious hiking that we had already done the day before.  It is a bit lazy, but much more relaxing!

We walked for about 10 minutes along the coast and 'parked' ourselves at a bar along the water where we had stopped for coffee before.  This time it was late enough in the afternoon for a real drink! Aperol Spritz (and a bowl of potato chips!)........we are degenerating quickly!  The location was great for people watching (and dogs) as the Sunday afternoon crowds were out for a stroll on the Passegiatta.

Back to the room around 6:15 in time for  a rest before dinner.  Sunday nights are a bit different........no aperitif/cocktail hour........and a 'light' dinner is served at 7:00 rather than 7:45.......and no coffee or drinks afterwards........so folks just meandered outside for a while before heading off to bed........here, Andrea and Joan.
